This site is to chronicle the adventure in building of my Van's Aircraft, RV-7a N103LG and HOPEFULLY fly it.

This will be about a three year long Educational project that my son Alex and I are doing together in hopes this will keep us together. He also is very interested in Aviation and hopes to someday also be a Pilot. This project really isn't about the end product but more about the journey we have getting there. My hopes are this will instill confidence in him and me, To have the knowledge of exactly how this machine was put together and give him the understanding that you really can do anything if you put you heart and soul into it. I have a deep passion for Aviation and Flying, I've wanted to Fly ever since I was a young boy like Alex, now I have the means to follow this dream. I believe this airplane will be an extension of that dream and I will be able to enjoy it with Him, my Beautiful wife and best friend Sandy, my Family and Friends.

The Airplane is an RV-7a two seat tricycle gear Amateur built kit from Van's Aircraft of Aurora, Oregon.  I plan to install a new Lycoming IO-360 fuel injected engine with 180-200 horse power and a Hartzell constant speed propeller. In this configuration I am expecting a cruising speed of about 175 knots at 8000' and burn about 10 gallons per hour, for the math nuts out there that's 20+ statue miles per gallon at 200+ statue miles an hour at 8000' msl.  That is not at all bad in my book......

The Instrument panel will be  all Garmin Avionics,  A GNS-430  or a GNS-530 GPS/NAV/COM,  GTX-330 mode S transponder to support the GNS-430/530 GPS with TIS ( FAA TRAFFIC INFORMATION SERVICE ),  GMA-340 Audio Panel and a GI-106a  CDI with VOR/LOC/GS/GPS for navigational guidance, I'm building this the Airplane for light IFR, VFR and Night VFR flight.

The Flight instruments will be a combination of Dynon Avionics glass EFIS flight display and  RC Allen and United Instruments Gyro's and Pressure instruments.

The Engine instrumentation will be from Dynon Avaionics EMS or Electronic International Instruments, These are the LED/LCD digital type, I feel these are the best of both worlds. The LED's will grab my attention faster and the LCD digital readout will give me more precise adjustments that being very important with a constant speed propeller.

There will be a complete list of installed items and my wish list on the "Shopping" page, just in case your shopping for my Birthday or Christmas or Fathers day or any other day you like :)

I will post my progress reports, construction photos, links to some great Aviation sites and some of my Flying photos from over the years and some other Interesting stuff......

Please feel free to send me any comments or suggestions at the bottom of this page, but please keep in mind that a fourteen year old is also involved in this project so please keep it POSITIVE.

One more thing, this is NOT a professional site, I'm not selling anything nor do I want anything other then something on my Birthday :), This site is for the enjoyment of myself, my family and my friends.

On this site I have a lot of photos you can view, most of these can be viewed in a larger size by clicking on that photo, then use your browser's back button to return to that page, The photos have been formatted smaller to save pace and faster viewing for you.   If you see a photo you would like a copy of please send me an e-mail at the address below with a description of what you want and I'll send you a reply with the full size photo.

Thank you!
